Under the direction of the Civil Construction Supervisor and/or Senior Tradesperson, you will perform civil construction work at the Journeyperson level with minimal supervision.

Responsibilities:

  • Act as a Helper to Tradesperson in the performance of their duties.
  • Assist with carpentry work, concrete forming, placing reinforcing steel/anchor bolts and concrete, concrete finishing, and wood frame and metal building erection.
  • Install: fencing, grounding, conduits, oil containment systems, and drainage systems as per drawings and specifications.
  • Operate power tools and general construction equipment including skid steers, mini excavators, and dump body.
  • Work in active substations and in the presence of foundations, structures, apparatus, overhead structures, and underground utilities.
  • Work inside/outside 12 months of the year 95% of the time in all weather conditions for extended periods.
  • Organization and care of crew tools and equipment.
  • Interact with various internal/external work groups for planning, coordination, and execution of the work   
  • Ensure the duties performed comply with Corporate and regulatory environmental requirements. Report any incidents or situations that may be harmful to the environment or in violation of regulatory requirements to line supervisor.
  • Adhere to and practice Manitoba Hydro Corporate Safety & Occupational Health Rules and regulations regarding WHMIS, TDG, Traffic control, Worker Protection Code, Safe Work Procedures and Life Saving Rules as they apply to construction activity.

Qualifications:

  • Grade 10 education plus a minimum of one year experience in the construction industry.
  • Must be physically capable of performing all the duties of the position and work under adverse weather conditions, temperatures, and emergency conditions.
  • Possesses and maintains in good standing a valid Manitoba Class 5 driver's licence and the ability to get a class 3 with air.
  • Familiar with and adhere to all safety rules and other approved practices and procedures.
  • Capable of working at heights and unusual work environments.
  • Familiar with and adhere to Federal and Provincial Regulations and practices related to WHMIS and Transportation of Dangerous Goods.
  • Familiar with Corporation policies and the union contract.
  • Possess an approved set of personal hand tools.
  • May be required to become certified to operate certain classes of equipment.
  • Possess strong interpersonal skills and be capable of communicating, both orally and in writing.
  • Proven ability to work harmoniously with fellow employees.
  • Willing and able to work anywhere in Manitoba for extended periods of time.

NOTES:

  • Transportation between work sites may be by small aircraft or boat.
  • This position will have a Winnipeg Headquarters Zone, based out at Riel Gate 2/3 location.

Salary Range
Starting salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. The range for the classification is $21.40-$29.86 Hourly, $41,009.02-$57,213.00 Annually.
