We are seeking a permanent Operator Driver to join our North Central Department in Kelsie/Wuskwatim/Laurie River.

Responsibilities:

  • Required to assist in the safe and efficient operation of the marine vessel, including taking the necessary actions to ensure the safety of life, the vessel, and the prevention of marine pollution while working within the corporate established health and safety management system, Transport Canada Marine Guidelines, Rules and Regulations, and all other applicable policies and procedures.
  • Assist in operating the vessel in full compliance of regulatory, seafaring, and Manitoba Hydro standard operating practices, procedures, and policies.
  • At the direction of the Operations Maintenance Supervisor and the boat captain, oversee and assist with general maintenance.
  • Assist in the safe operation of the Tugboat, Self-Propelled Barge, heavy equipment, snowmobiles, ATV and other light equipment.
  • Must be able to operate a knuckle boom.
  • Perform rigging requiring knowledge of slings, cables, sheaves, etc., in accordance with established safety rules and regulations.
  • Perform utility duties, such as regulatory inspections of fuel systems, earth dykes, control structures, and stoplogs.
  • May be required to work from scaffolds, work platforms, in confined spaces and outdoors in all climatic conditions.
  • Ability to provide direction and training to junior personnel and to plan, organize, and schedule work activities.
  • Required to train junior personnel in all areas of work engaged with the station.
  • Carry out rough carpentry work and concrete work, painting, fence erection and building erection.
  • Assist in plant cleanliness, painting, grass cutting, landscaping, maintenance of roads and grounds, and snow removal.
  • Ensure that duties performed comply with Corporate and regulatory environmental requirements. Report any incidents or situations that may be harmful to the environment or in violation of corporate or regulatory requirements.
  • Operate electrical and pneumatic tools.
  • Perform rigging work which will require climbing ability.
  • Operate the following mobile equipment as required: cars, trucks, Shuttlewagon, tractors front-end loaders, backhoe, snowmobile, motorboat, powerhouse cranes, grader, and other light equipment.
  • Assist in scroll case inspection and perform grinding duties during turbine runner repairs.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum Grade 10 education, plus the necessary experience to operate the assigned equipment.
  • Be able to attain a MED A2 certificate.
  • Be able to attain FA2+ or Marine First Aid.
  • Possess Manitoba Hydro Equipment Operator's Permit appropriate to the equipment to be operated.
  • Possess knowledge of the equipment in its use and service requirement.
  • Possess a valid Province of Manitoba class 5 Driver's Licence. Will be required to obtain a Class 3 with Air Brake endorsement, within a reasonable time frame.
  • Should be familiar with the operation of the EAM System.
  • Possess a valid Transportation of Dangerous Goods Certificate.
  • General knowledge of Transport Canada Guidelines.
  • Experience at a Hydraulic Generating Station would be an asset. 
  • Be capable of performing all the duties of the position.
  • Physically capable of working at heights, in adverse weather conditions and unusual work environments such as noise or dust.
  • Capable of understanding and following written and oral instructions, plans, and sketches of small projects.
  • Capable of working with minimum supervision.
  • Ability to work harmoniously with fellow employees.
  • Be familiar with and adhere to Manitoba Hydro safety manual and approved practices and procedures related to Hydraulic Generating Stations.

NOTES:

  • This position is part of the Wuskwatim/Kelsey/Laurie River North Central Operations.
  • The successful applicant will be assigned a headquarters zone based on their place of principal residence.
  • Primary work location of position will be Thompson CRD – May 1st/Oct 31st Kelsey/Laurie River Generating Station – Nov 1st/April 30th.
  • May be required to work at other locations within North Central Generation Department and where transportation between these sites may be aircraft.
  • This position is designated as a North/Drive-In

Salary Range
Starting salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. The range for the classification is $25.31-$33.15 Hourly, $48,503.78-$63,515.40 Annually.
