Job Overview: 

Join our team as a House Parent and make a meaningful difference in the lives of children and youth. At Peguis Child and Family Services, our Resource Homes are dedicated to fostering connection, belonging, and providing opportunities for a meaningful life. As a House Parent, you will play a crucial role in creating a nurturing and supportive home environment where children and youth can thrive. Additionally, you will supervise support and respite staff to ensure the highest quality of care is provided.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assume full responsibility for the household, ensuring the safety and well-being of the child placed in your care.
  • Document and report all critical incidents via Incident Report, maintaining accurate records of any occurrences.
  • Create a welcoming and supportive home environment that encourages the active participation of children and youth.
  • Support the pursuit of interests and goals of children and youth residing in the home.
  • Strengthen the bond between children or youth and their significant others, including family and community members.
  • Provide non-judgmental, safe, and caring support to children and youth in the home.
  • Performing general household duties, such as cleaning, cooking, and shopping.
  • Supervise daily activities, including meals, chores, and recreational outings.
  • Supervise support and respite staff to ensure adherence to agency policies and regulations.
  • Collaborate with other staff members and professionals to ensure the holistic well-being of children and youth.
  • Maintain documentation and reports as required by agency policies and regulations.

 

Qualifications/Requirements: 

  • High school diploma or equivalent (post-secondary in a related field preferred).
  • Previous experience working with children and youth in a caregiver setting.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to provide nurturing and supportive care to children and youth.
  • Knowledge of trauma-informed care principles preferred.
  • Ability to handle crisis situations and respond to unforeseen emergencies. 
  • CPR and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain upon hire).
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record ($2,000,000 liability is required).
