The Southern Chiefs’ Organization (SCO) requires a Jordan’s Principle Coordinator to support First Nation children and families attending schools within the Winnipeg School Division.
BACKGROUND:
SCO is a growing and dynamic regional Indigenous organization that represents 34 Anishinaabe and Dakota Nations and more than 87,000 citizens in southern Manitoba. SCO was established 25 years ago by the Chiefs as an independent organization to protect, preserve, promote, and enhance First Nation peoples’ inherent rights, languages, customs, and traditions through the application and implementation of the spirit and intent of the Treaty-making process.
Jordan's Principle is named in memory of Jordan River Anderson, a young boy from Norway House Cree Nation. Jordan’s Principle is a child first initiative intended to ensure that First Nation children receive public services ordinarily available to other children due to jurisdictional disputes. The goal of the initiative is to connect First Nation children and their families with quality services, support, and resources to achieve holistic outcomes.
The SCO Jordan’s Principle Coordinator at the Winnipeg School Division is a valuable member of the team and works with families, educators, and support staff to access programs, services and supports to increase educational success for First Nation children. The successful candidate has knowledge of and a genuine interest in helping children and families to navigate and connect with the programs, services and supports to which they are entitled.
SCO provides competitive compensation and an excellent pension and benefits, as well as a positive work environment!
