We are seeking Pipeline Inspectors to be based in Winnipeg and work throughout the province on our Gas Engineering and Construction team executing natural gas construction work with minimal supervision. These are seasonal term positions from May to December 2024.

Responsibilities:

  • Performs quality control and safety inspections during construction of distribution pressure natural gas systems.
  • Verify fabrication for conformance to drawings, specifications, contracts, and appropriate Company procedures and standards.
  • Measures and records information on work performed for use in contractor payment and system records.
  • Liaise with contractors, internal staff, customers, agencies, and the public.
  • Conducts inspections for construction of residential and commercial natural gas, electric, and communications.
  • Oversee pipeline commissioning procedures performed by contractors.
  • Provide inspection for condition of pipe, wire, fittings, and materials. Capture applicable material information.
  • Accurately completes required documentation, as-built construction drawings, applicable forms, and inspection notes.
  • Review contractor prepared job safety plans, request changes to suit work and site conditions.
  • Ensure polyethylene joining is in accordance with the Manitoba Hydro Polyethylene Joining Guide.
  • Provide support for inspection on high pressure and transmission pipeline projects.

Qualifications:

  • A two-year diploma in Engineering Technology from a recognized post-secondary institution plus two years relevant construction or inspection experience in a gas utility or municipal construction environment.
    OR
  • Grade 12 plus a one-year certificate in a relevant discipline such as drafting or construction technology and:
    - Three years relevant gas pipeline construction experience.
    OR
    - Five years relevant municipal construction experience.
    OR
    - Seven years relevant pipe fitting experience.
  • Ability to work co-operatively in a safe and responsible manner with all stakeholders following standards, procedures, and policies.
  • Ability to understand written instructions, complex civil, electric, gas, and communications construction drawings and procedures.
  • Communicate clearly and accurately in writing and verbally.
  • Physically capable of performing all duties of the position including working in trenches and excavations.
  • Be able to work safely in a variety of settings and weather conditions on construction sites.
  • Experienced in the use of PC software and wireless smart devices.
  • Attend and satisfactory complete training courses as assigned.
  • Possession of current, valid Manitoba Driver's Licence, Class 5.

Salary Range
Starting salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. The range for the classification is $29.64-$40.24 Hourly.
